Learning from competition

We are here to learn, and grow, both as athletes and as a whole person. Being able to reflect on our experiences helps us to grow. The reality is that races won’t always go to plan (“no plan survives first contact” / “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face”). The way we respond to how the race unfolded will determin whether we can grow from this experience.

Using Gibbs reflective cycle you can start to think through what happened during the race/event, and how you can learn from it. Please complete the form below, which will email your answers to me, and we can then discuss in more detail.

Learn

We can learn far more from the competitions that don’t go to plan, than the ones we win.

Focus on the process

By using the competitions as learning opportunities it helps you focus on the process goals rather than outcomes.

Post race blues

It is not uncommon to have post competition blues. Having a proactive plan in place for the days after your competition can prevent this.

Celebrate your success

Celebrate what went well and boost your positive memories of the sport! Involve those who supported you to give thanks back to them also.

As soon as you can after your race / event, please complete the following form.

This emails me your responses and we can then schedule a review to chat through your race.
