1. Policy Statement
HP3 is committed to promoting environmental sustainability across all aspects of our coaching practice. We recognise the impact of sports and fitness activities on the environment and strive to minimise our ecological footprint while inspiring our athletes and community to adopt sustainable practices.
This policy aligns with leading industry sustainability strategies, including UK Sport's Environmental Sustainability Strategy, British Triathlon's Endurance 2040+ Strategy, and Sport England's Every Move Strategy.
2. Our Commitments
Reducing Carbon Footprint:
Encourage remote coaching to minimise travel emissions.
Promote active travel for in-person sessions, such as walking, cycling, or carpooling.
Use energy-efficient equipment and digital platforms for virtual coaching.
Sustainable Procurement:
Partner with environmentally responsible brands such as Supernatural Fuel, whose products use compostable packaging and sustainable ingredients, and Scarpa, whose Green Manifesto outlines a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of their footwear production.
Prioritise suppliers that demonstrate clear environmental and ethical practices.
Minimising Waste:
Operate as a paperless organisation wherever possible, utilising digital tools for communications, training plans, and record-keeping.
Reduce single-use plastics by encouraging athletes to use reusable water bottles and sustainable gear.
Raising Awareness:
Educate athletes and staff about sustainable practices through resources and workshops.
Share environmental achievements and tips via HP3’s social media channels and community events.
Engaging in Collaboration:
Work with partners, including Supernatural Fuel and Scarpa, to promote sustainability initiatives.
Participate in industry-wide efforts to improve sustainability in sports and coaching.
3. Areas of Focus
3.1 Training and Events
Design training plans that incorporate eco-friendly practices, such as localised in-person sessions to reduce travel emissions.
Use virtual platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, TrainingPeaks) to minimise environmental impact.
Host events that adhere to sustainable practices, such as waste minimisation, recycling facilities, and carbon offsetting where feasible.
3.2 Equipment and Apparel
Promote the use of durable, eco-friendly gear and apparel among athletes.
Highlight Scarpa’s environmentally conscious footwear as a preferred option for trail running and outdoor activities.
Encourage recycling or repurposing of used equipment through partnerships and community initiatives.
3.3 Nutrition and Recovery
Partner with Supernatural Fuel to provide sustainable nutrition options for athletes.
Educate athletes on sustainable dietary choices and reducing food waste.
