Season review and goal setting
Your next season starts with the one you just finished. We review the year in evidence, not memory: your coach prepares a data pack from TrainingPeaks, you tell us what the numbers cannot see, and together we set goals that fit you, not a template.
For athletes coached by Team HP3 · 30 to 45 minutes · your coach reads every word
Five steps, then we keep the loop alive
This is not a form you fill in once a year. It is the first step of a cycle we run together, and your goals stay live documents we review each quarter.
Your data pack
Your coach reviews your season in TrainingPeaks: training, races, and last year's goals, scored honestly.
Your reflection
You complete the exercise below with the pack beside you. The data starts the story; you finish it.
The review call
The important part. We agree next season's goals together on a call, not by form.
Your goal charter
One page we both sign up to: your why, your goals, your races, and the plan for when things wobble.
Your season plan
The charter builds your annual plan in TrainingPeaks, and we review goals together every quarter.
Three questions before any goal is set
Structured reflection is a clinical skill, not nostalgia. The exercise walks you through it properly, including the part most reviews skip: how the season actually felt.
What?
What actually happened: the wins, the setbacks, and what your season cost you. Honest beats impressive; what did not work is the most useful thing you can tell us.
So what?
What it means: what you learned about yourself as an athlete, and whether your reasons for doing this have changed.
Now what?
What comes next: the dream worth chasing over three years, and the season that gets you a step closer.
The right type of goal, for the right athlete, at the right time
The evidence has moved on from one-size-fits-all target setting. A goal type that drives one athlete forward can quietly break another, so we choose the mix together on your call. Outcome goals are fragile by design; process and learning goals bend without breaking, and every big goal gets an if-then plan for the obstacles we already know are coming.
A result: a placing, a time. Powerful, and fragile; we cap how many you carry.
Your own staging posts: beat your own number, not the field's.
The daily and weekly actions you fully control. These go into TrainingPeaks.
For new territory: master the skill first, chase the number after.
See what you can do, without a target attached. Underrated, and evidence-backed.
A season that fits your life
Training is one part of a whole person. The exercise asks about the hours you honestly have, the life events we should plan around, your health and energy, and at least one goal that has nothing to do with sport. That balance is not a nice-to-have: it is what keeps athletes in the sport for a decade rather than a season.
Start your season review
Only complete this if you are coached by Team HP3. A copy goes to the coaching staff, your answers are saved to your athlete record, and your coach reads them alongside your data pack before your review call.
Review your season with us
You will need the data pack your coach sent you: your season story in evidence, with last year's goals scored. About 30 minutes well spent.
Tell us where you are starting from
No data pack yet; your answers are the baseline your next review builds on. Tell us about your last season, wherever and however you trained.
Your coach picks it up from here
Within a few days your coach will read your reflection against your data pack and book your review call. Nothing you write is graded and nothing is final until we have talked: the call is where your 2027 goals are actually set.
